Department: School

Reports To: Principal

 

Primary Purpose:  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional Strategies

1.      Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.

2.      Plan and implement engaging lessons in content area as assigned using curriculum, supplementary materials, field trips, special guests, etc. that are according to state standards.

3.      Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.

4.      Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, school policies, and administrative regulations.

5.     Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodations for the individual needs of students assigned.

6.     Complete lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and daily grades on computer.

7.     Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities.

8.     Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

9.     Cooperate with other members of the staff (including team leader) in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to school requirements.

10.  Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).

11.    Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.

12.  Perform clerical duties required with progress reports, report cards, inventories of classroom equipment/supplies/textbooks, records of attendance, instructional supplies, administering of achievement tests and TAKS tests, etc.

13.    Complete other paperwork as assigned or requested.

 

Student Growth and Development

1.     Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

2.     Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.

3.     Assume responsibility for extra-curricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.

4.     Plan/chaperone local academic field trips.

5.     Hold “HELP” classes before or after school, if needed.

6.     Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

1.     Implement Two Dimensions Preparatory Academy Charter School “Discipline Management Plan.”

2.     Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

3.     Manage student’s behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to Board policies, administrative regulations, and IEP.

4.     Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

5.     Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

6.     Keep building/classroom organized and clean at all times.

7.     Promptly report repair needs by completing the appropriate forms.

 

Communication

1.     Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students,  their parents, staff, and administrators.

2.     Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

3.     Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

Professional Growth and Development

1.     Participate in the school’s staff development program.

2.     Attend all staff meetings and staff development workshops.

3.     Attend all school evening programs, meetings, and activities.

4.     Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.

5.     Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

 

Policy Implementation

1.     Comply and maintain with all Federal, state, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Keep record of all new laws and policies in relation to classroom teachers, educations, etc.

2.     Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

3.     Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

 

Other

1.     Assist with lunch duty, dismissal, morning duty, and after school extracurricular activities.

2.     Plan, organize, and/or sponsor extracurricular activities.

3.     Serve on school committees as needed.

4.     Plan and implement celebrations at the end of the first and second semester.

5.     Believe deeply in the mission of Two Dimensions Preparatory Academy Charter School.

6.     Carry out any other specific duties as assigned.

 

Mental Demands

1.     Ability to communicate (verbal and written).

2.     Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.  

 

Qualifications

1. The teacher applicant should hold a bachelor's degree along with a valid teacher's certificate (EC-4) in the state of Texas.

2.  The teacher applicant must have a sense of purpose about children and their educational potential.  The applicant must be child-centered, caring, and committed to the principle that all children can learn. 

3.  The teacher applicant must possess organizational skills, the ability to communicate, flexibility, enthusiasm for the teaching profession, a positive attitude and outlook, and willingness to work with all students at all levels.

4.  The teacher applicant must be knowledgeable in academic areas, learning theories, classroom management, and teaching strategies.

5.  The teacher applicant must be professional in appearance, in manner, and in attitude. 

 

Salary

Salary is based upon qualifications and experience.
