God Bless the Child 1939. Yes my love, I am Billy Holiday also know as Lady Day. I was born Eleanora Fagan on April 7th 1915 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a turbulent childhood, Holiday began singing in nightclubs in Harlem, where she was heard by the producer John Hammond, who commended her voice. She signed a recording contract with Brunswick in 1935. I died in New York City leaving a legacy on July 17, 1959.
